On Wednesday, Dec. 3, the annual winter band concert featured the middle and high school bands, led by band director Mrs. Lisa Mullen.
Along with the middle and high school band, teachers and faculty within the school, including Mr. Craig Betts, Mrs. Carla Ebling, Ms. Elizabeth Helmick, and the marching band director, Ms. Donna Stuller, accompanied the bands.
The concert started with the middle school band playing March of the Magical Toys by Robert W. Smith. Their next piece was Fastasia on “Christmas Comes Anew,” arranged by Michael Story, which is an arrangement of a popular French carol. They followed these two pieces with an additional three songs, which then led to the high school band performance.
The High School band started their portion of the night with Christmas March (Joy to the World) by Vaclav Nelhybel.
Senior Audrey McNaughton claims, “My favorite song from the band concert would probably be Christmas March because I had at least an eight-measure solo, and I also got to work with instruments I don’t normally use, and strengthen my ability to play different notes/pitches.”
They played other fun pieces such as Mele Kalikimaka by R. Alex Anderson and arranged by David A. Myers, and Christmas at the Movies, arranged by John Moss, which included famous songs from the Christmas movies, “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Home Alone,” and “The Polar Express.” In the song A Christmas Spiritual arranged by John Moss, three students had their time to shine with solos, including Madison Briggs, Hannah Mallonee, and Kellen Shepley. Their last song, A Holiday Extravaganza by David Bobrowitz, ended the night of song and music.
The bands will perform again in May with the addition of the elementary school band.
