Newport High School’s theater department is pleased to announce that this year’s musical, which took place on March 5, 6, and 7, is a country jukebox musical, May We All, featuring songs by iconic country artists such as Dolly Parton, Chris Stapleton, The Chicks, Billy Ray Cyrus, and many other influential country artists.
May We All follows the story of Jenna Coates, a girl who moved to Nashville in hopes of becoming a successful country singer but returns to her small-town home after facing the harsh reality of her dream. Throughout the show, Jenna learns about the importance of community, second chances, self-discovery, and accepting where your life leads you.
Jenna Coates’ character was brought to life by senior Jordin Briggs, whose past roles included Gabriella Montez in High School Musical and Babette in Beauty and the Beast. The male lead, Dustin, will be played by Riley Babski.
Briggs exclaims, “I was super excited when they announced the musical ‘cause I am a huge country music fan, so I am definitely looking forward to performing those songs with the best cast for my senior year.” She continues by saying, “I am also looking forward to performing our last show with my fellow seniors!”
Other students who return to the stage and anticipate their lead roles include seniors Taylor Barr, Sophia Griffin and Hannah Mallonee; juniors Maryanna Aldrich, Calleigh Barlup, James Heisey and Garrett Jenney; sophomores Logan Cigic, Hunter Erney, Paityn Warner and Judah Zeigler; freshmen Madilyne Bailor and Abby Erney; and eighth-graders Hendrick Keilman and David Stewart.
