Newport Golf earned attention and accolades this year as they faced a more competitive lineup.
The Newport Golf program has been gaining popularity, thanks to a few students who joined the team this year: Aiden Amsler, Tai Caudle, and Lucas Zaring.
The teammate trio made it to districts for the 2025 golf season, which was a big step in the right direction.
With the broadened roster, the team’s energy increased. “The energy was always pretty positive. We always had the mindset to try to compete with more experienced schools,” sophomore standout Aiden Amsler reported.
Amsler made it to districts this year in his first year on Newport’s golf team. “We didn’t expect to be there; we thought this year was the beginning of a rebuild,” Amsler said, implying the loss of Nate Stuck, a 2025 alum who continues to play at the college level.
Junior Tai Caudle added, “First-year players joining made the team quite larger and more competitive. The team was overall motivated by that competitive spirit, and we were able to see a lot of potential throughout the year.”
There was an overwhelming agreement on the most valuable player of the season: freshman Lucas Zaring.
Zaring said his favorite part of the season was making new friends. “I had a chance to go to districts as a freshman, which pushed me to do my best,” he explained, and further credited this as his “key to success”.
Overall, the golf team took a huge leap forward this year. Follow Newport Golf to see their future accomplishments as they work their way through their future seasons and successes.
