After 15 years, the Newport High School Marching Band has finally purchased new uniforms this summer. Although the old uniforms were loved by most, they were starting to look a little worn – the pants were fraying and the once vibrant whites had gone dim
After paying $35,000 for their current attire, the band is sure to be the talk of the pregame festivities. These new uniforms consist of black overalls with the Newport mascot, the buffalo, on the top left right below the strap. The jackets are the same lighter blue with a silver sash stretching from the top right of the jacket to the bottom left to the Newport Buffalo.
Stepping it up a notch this year, there are hats, plumes, and gloves to go along with the uniforms, unlike the previous years where there were only jackets and overalls. Unfortunately, the band had to wait until the second game of the season to reveal their uniforms because the first game was Greenwood night, and the band wanted a special unveiling for the home crowd.
Even though the band had to retire their beloved old uniforms, they are very excited to have striking new uniforms to rock the 2023 marching band season.
The uniforms were either thrown away or gladly taken by the marching band students to keep and cherish forever. The old uniforms consisted of navy blue overalls with white and silver stripes down the side of the legs, a lighter blue jacket with navy blue, silver, and white cuffs, and the word “NEWPORT” down the front in white and navy blue.
