This year’s White Out game was one to remember. On September 27th, a home football game against Milton Hershey was rained out. Fortunately, the game still took place but it lost the marching band and cheerleaders’ presence. The students were disappointed but still made sure to come out and support the team. The student section that night was filled with several new faces including the ones who usually participate in the band and cheering.
The students showed their pride by wearing all white for the theme on Friday’s game. They started yelling the chant, “DEFENSE..DEFENSE” which worked when the football team blocked Milton Hershey from getting points.
Newport made a few touchdowns which led some students from the student section to do pushups based on the amount of points Newport had, which is an activity the cheerleaders usually do. The National Anthem, which is usually performed by the Newport Marching Band, was sung by junior Jordin Briggs.
Overall, the large student section and others watching the game showed their support by cheering for the football team. This all led to a Newport victory against the Spartans with the score being 20-18. This was Newport’s first win of the 2024 season. This victory was celebrated by the students and fans who ran onto the field at the end of the game congratulating the players.
Newport has now faced three more teams which include Juniata, Halifax, and Upper Dauphin. They claimed victory in the game against the Halifax Wildcats with a score of 42-7. The Buffaloes will now face one more team this season: Steelton-Highspire. This week’s game against them is Newport’s last game of the 2024 season, which will be away at Steelton Highspire High School.
