The mentality of music

Have you ever wondered why music is such a big part of most people’s lives? Maybe you’ve thought about why you like the music you do. Well, there are many reasons why and how someone is drawn to a certain type of music.

First, culture is an important part. There are many different types of music from around the world, and they all stem from different cultures. For example, jazz is a music genre stemming from African Americans popularized around the 1920’s. Your music taste could very well be dependent on the region you live in and any cultural group.

Secondly, there’s the scientific aspect. According to  Why Do We Love Music? by Robert J. Zatorre on the National Library of Medicine website, many different aspects of the brain make music appealing to us. Zatorre explains the different parts of the brain and how they help with processing music.

The last noteworthy thing is the emotional side of it. Music makes us feel things. The emotional response to music is arguably one of the most important parts of it as a whole. Certain chords cause different reactions in people. Lyrics can invoke deep and meaningful thoughts. Music is one of the things that makes us utterly human.
