The Greenwood boys soccer team reclaimed the hardware in the 2025 Perry County tournament on Oct. 4 for the 13th time in program history. The last time Greenwood won was in 2023, when the Wildcats downed West Perry 2-1 in the championship on the Mustangs’ turf.
This year, Greenwood opened the tournament facing Susquenita. Before this matchup, Greenwood was 1-0-1 against the Blackhawks on the season. Susquenita began with the lead, scoring just 14 minutes into the first half. The Wildcat offense responded harshly with junior Jack Myers placing the ball in the net with the help of senior Keegan Ross. Myers spun back deep into the Blackhawk defense just eight seconds later to rise 2-1 for the win.
“I had a lot of energy each game, and that really helped me in scoring my goals and performing the way I did. My team was a big help, and I could not have done it without them,” Myers said.
Both keepers played in this match, with sophomore Nathan Joya saving five and freshman Drake Kerstetter saving two.
Moving on to the championship game, the Wildcats then faced the Mustangs of West Perry in a crucial, nail-biting matchup.
Greenwood does not see West Perry until the PeCo games, but Greenwood has proved to beat West Perry in imperative times such as these. Greenwood and West Perry took it into overtime.
Two minutes into overtime, Myers finds himself aligned for a shot, takes it, and lands it. The Wildcats won it, and Joya, in goal, held down with eight saves.
