We won PeCo! Isis's review from the mats
On Nov. 12, 2025, Newport hosted the annual Perry County Cheer Competition. The teams involved this year are Newport, Susquenita, and West Perry. This year being my fourth as a Newport cheerleader and cheer captain.
Newport went first on the mat to showcase the hard work with the 12 girls they brought to the team this season. Newport hit the routine with a few wobbles, but overall, we are known for our well-put-together, high-energy dance, and we proved that once more this year. We have had a rough season so far, but pulled it together a month before PeCo, and proved how hard we can work.
Next went Susquenita, with a team of about 20. Susquentia also had very high energy, and hit all of their stunts with little wobbling. Susquenita kept everyone yelling and jumping around with their routine. I was yelling for them and felt the energy from the mat. Some controversy over the win came about from the Blackhawks misspelling “Hawks” as “Hawsk” in their cheer.
Lastly, West Perry had 10 girls; they ended the competition with their jumpy routine. West Perry also had everyone yelling and excited for their routine. This was the best year for West Perry; they had an energetic routine and had solid stunts that I haven't seen before.
Susquenita took home the PeCo trophy for the second year in a row. Newport placed 2nd behind Susquenita by only 8 points. Newport will be competing next at TVL on November 22 at Halifax at 6:25 PM.
