On Sept. 20, the freshman class went on a field trip to Little Buffalo State Park for environmental science class. Environmental science teacher Mrs. Chubb, business and tech teacher Mrs. Bilheimer, and learning support teacher Mrs. McNaughton went with the students on the trip to help teach and chaperone. Mrs. Mandy, the park ranger, led the students throughout the day.
This field trip is an annual event that provides time for both students and teachers to spend in nature. The students in the freshman class were divided into two groups, one that went on the trip at the beginning of the day, and one that went later in the day.
The students learned about the biosphere, plants, and small bugs and animals around the park. Little Buffalo covers 923 acres of Newport. It has a lake, swimming pool, two playgrounds, eight miles of trails, picnic spots, and a lot of animals and wildlife. All and all, the students enjoyed the field trip. Student Camden Barick says “It was so much fun…we need to do this every year.”
