Many Newport students are college bound. One of the most difficult parts of picking a college is that there are so many different places to choose from and reasons to choose them. Something that could help with that decision is college co-op opportunities.
At a school with a co-op program, students work for a company that may align with their future career. It is similar to an internship, but it gives academic credit and guarantees payment while working. They usually last around three to six months, and sometimes the company will be willing to hire from the student pool afterwards, especially in more in-demand fields.
Several well known Pennsylvania colleges have co-ops, such as Drexel University and Temple University in Philadelphia, Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, and Villanova University in Villanova. Of course, each one has its own specialties besides co-op, but these programs can be a good motivation for going to one of these colleges. Valuable work experience combined with education and academic credit at the same time is a convenient combination.
Completing a co-op can also be beneficial for finding a job outside of the company initially worked with through the school. The experience gained reflects well on a resume and sets candidates apart from others who haven’t completed one of these programs.
