On Oct. 27, 2023, the notorious album In Utero by the sensational grunge-rock group Nirvana received new and improved mastering of audio by the band’s production company. The remaster featured never-before-seen performances and takes on old songs from past concerts for the 30th anniversary of the creation of the album. The concerts that were released from the vault took place in Rome, Palaghiaccio Di Marino; Springfield, Springfield Civic Center; New York, Roseland Ballroom; Seattle, Seattle Center Arena; and, Los Angeles, Great Western Forum.
This is groundbreaking; Nirvana’s last produced song was back in 2001, “You Know You’re Right.” These old songs being performed make it sound a lot different than if they had made it in a studio, giving every song a unique feel. For example, if you liked the way the guitar sounded in the concert version better than the studio version, you can now compare all of these new versions of the songs.
The reason why there haven’t been any new songs is because the lead singer and frontman of the band, Kurt Cobain, has been dead for more than 29 years. These new remastered versions are the closest thing fans are getting to a new song, making them all the more special for longtime supporters of the band.
