Members of senior English classes took a trip to this year’s Renaissance Faire where they watched people fight in Medieval armor and with 16th-century weapons, feasted on the many choices of food, and took the day off of school to enjoy performances reminiscent of the Renaissance period.
Seniors left the school on Oct. 5 early to make it when the faire opened at 9 a.m. and stayed until the entertainment was completed at 1:30 p.m. New to the faire this year were several musical ensembles, an improv show and a rat show. Chaperone and Senior English teacher, Mrs. Amy Wagner, especially enjoyed watching the students interact with sixteenth-century performers.
Located at Manheim, PA, on the Mount Joy estate and winery, the Renaissance Faire for thirty years has brought people entertainment and educational opportunities to learn about the 16th century. The students interact in an authentic village and meet nobles and peasants alike. Blacksmiths and many others demonstrate their craft in person before visitors and students.
Additionally, students can eat a variety of delicacies including giant pickles and Scottish eggs. The giant turkey leg remains a favorite staple, but several students complained about the lengthy lines. Students could enjoy their meals while watching the entertainment in several outdoor venues.
