The Newport Buffaloes girls basketball team went 3-12 in the 24-25 season. They were 2-6 for home games and 1-5 for away games.

The girls competed in PECO on Dec. 6 and 7, at Greenwood High School. In the first game on Friday, the girls played West Perry and had a loss. On Saturday, they played Susquenita and had a 21-46 loss.“PECO was the start of our season, which didn’t turn out exactly the way we wanted” says Shutt. “Everyone played hard, but we just couldn’t match the other teams with shooting.”
The next few games against Juniata, Susquenita, and Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy were all losses. The girls then had a win on Sat. Dec. 21, they scored 36-25 against Midd West.
Then, they started the new year against Greenwood, resulting in a loss 20-64, followed by four more losses against Line Mountain, Upper Dauphin Area, Dayspring Christian Academy, and Juniata.

Foltz gained seven points, five rebounds, and seven assists. Junior Jordin Briggs took home seven points, two rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Arnold scored six points from the post.
After the big win, the Buffaloes had a series of four unfortunate losses against Millersburg, Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy, and Greenwood.
The girls played Sat., Feb. 8 against Halifax at home. They had a 45-56 loss, but Shutt said, “…even though we lost, my favorite game would have to be Halifax, making the half-court shot at the end of the quarter.”
Finally, the Buffaloes ended their season with a 38-23 win against Bellville Mennonite at home.
“My favorite game was the pink out game because we beat the other team, and all of the people that played scored,” exclaimed Arnold. However, her favorite part about the entire season was senior night. All of the seniors are Megan Foltz, Brooke Arnold, Gracyn Shutt, and Mikayla Deiter.
Senior Mikayla Deiter says, “It was bittersweet, I loved seeing all of our hardwork through the years pay off, but it was hard saying goodbyeto a sport that I have played for 9 years.”
