The 2024 Paris Olympics had a large number of interesting, exciting, and unintentionally hilarious moments. With Snoop Dogg as one of the torchbearers, as well as a correspondent for NBC, the Games started off with a fun vibe.
The Turkish star of the Olympics, Yusuf Dikeç, took everyone by surprise when he achieved second place in the 10-meter air pistol event without using any sort of special equipment. In the Games, the preferred technique for competitors is to have one eye open, with an optical device attached to it in order to minimize the area one can see. Dikeç chose not to use any such assistance and instead used the techniques he had learned as a military officer: shooting with both eyes wide and focused on the target. His seemingly nonchalant style captured the attention of millions.
On the other hand, Australian breakdancer Rachael Gunn, also known as Raygun, had a performance that looked very strange to many. Contrary to usual breakdancing moves, consisting of intricate handstands and upside-down spins, her routine consisted of several kangaroo-inspired moves, such as curling her arms in a pose resembling the animal and hopping several times. The judges weren’t impressed, and Raygun received a score of zero throughout her three break battles. Her moves were creative, and deserve some credit, but unfortunately, she had no chance against the competition.
As for French pole vaulter Anthony Ammirati, he didn’t have much luck in his event either. He needed to get into the top 12 in his qualifying session or clear the 5.80m bar. On his third and final attempt to clear the 5.70m bar, it looked like he was going to clear it until his genitalia connected with the bar on the way down. What a hilarious way to finish up your Olympic challenge, although it’s nonetheless very disappointing for Ammirati.
Additionally, rugby star and bronze medalist Ilona Maher, who shined in her tiktoks from the Olympic village and Penn State vault specialist Steve Nedoroscik, who inspired Superman memes both catapulted their Olympic success into a contract with the current season of Dancing with the Stars.
The United States eventually won the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, tying at 40 gold medals with China but emerging victorious with more silver medals. With all the antics this year, everyone is looking forward to the 2026 Winter Olympics held in Milan, Italy, and the 2028 Summer Games, which will be held closer to home in Los Angeles.
