Josh Wiest
Josh Wiest is third in the graduating class of 2024. He is the son of Dan and Lois Wiest and the brother of Alyssa.
Josh is an active member of Newport’s art department, being a part of the art club for over four years. As such, his favorite class is art and his favorite teacher is Mrs. Barlup.
Outside of school, Wiest enjoys improving his art skills by drawing. He also enjoys playing video games, most notably Skyrim.
“So many things are unpredictable; you can’t control everything, you don’t need to know or understand everything, and you don’t need to set your whole life in front of you,” says Weist, “but there is always something you can do. You can always try your best.”
After high school, Wiest plans to attend Harrisburg University to obtain a bachelor’s degree in computer information sciences.
Alexandria Reisinger
Alexandria Reisinger is ranked fourth academically in the graduating class of 2024. She is the daughter of Josh and Jacklyn Reisinger and the sister of Candace and Korimae.
Reisinger is very active in Newport’s extracurriculars. She played on the softball team for all four years of high school, and before that, she played softball for ten years. She has been a member of student council for four years, the National Honor Society for two years, and Spanish National Honor Society for one year. Additionally, Reisinger is a member of PYEA, peer tutoring, and varsity club.
Reisinger’s favorite class is Algebra II and her favorite teacher is Mrs. Lauren Herb. She took this class in her Sophomore year with Mrs. Herb and followed up her math career by completing up through Calculus AB.
“The best advice I can give for high schoolers is to not be afraid to have a differing opinion,” says Reisinger, “Don’t let others opinions dictate the way you feel and think about different subjects, and don’t give into the peer pressure that says you have to be a certain way. Find the people who accept you for you.”
Reisinger plans to attend Mansfield University of Pennsylvania for secondary education in biology while also playing for their softball team.
Aiden Shiffer
Aiden Shiffer is ranked fifth in this year’s graduating class. He is the son of Alana Evans and Anthony Evans and the brother of Holden Erb, Colin Shiffer, Addison Shiffer, and Layla Evans.
Shiffer excelled in several activities throughout high school. He was a member of Esports for one year, an assistant editor of the Blue and White for two years, and played the trumpet in concert band for seven years.
In his free time, Shiffer enjoys playing the guitar, playing his favorite video games, and building computers.
While taking many difficult classes, Shiffer found his favorite classes to be pre-calculus and calculus with Mrs. Nicole Cirulli. She is also his favorite teacher throughout high school.
“Don’t procrastinate,” says Shiffer, “Or do. It depends on how good you are at it.”
Shiffer is currently attending Harrisburg University of Science and Technology for IT and computer networking and will continue after high school. He plans to pursue a career in network engineering.
