There are many signs that a girl may have feelings for a boy. In high school, it’s tricky to differentiate between the signs of being friend-zoned and the signs of actually being someone that person has their eye on.
She texts you and asks what the answers were for the homework because she was out that day. You may be asking, why, out of all people, would she text you for the answers. Maybe it’s because she wasn’t there to receive them, so she got into contact with the one person she knew was in her class. If that is the case, she is not into you.
She dropped her books and you picked them up for her. Even though this doesn’t exactly tell you whether or not she is interested, her reaction says a lot. If she smiled and nodded at you afterwards, chances are she is just thankful she didn’t have to gather them herself. If she compliments you while she thanks you, though, she may be into you.
If you do feel like this, don’t feel stranded. There is a term for this, though it isn’t medically recognized. It’s called Obsessive Love Disorder (OLD); this occurs when you become obsessed to the point of fixation and start treating one as a possession or object. You may not realize you’re doing anything wrong because in your mind both of you are thinking the same thing.
Jordan Weyant, a tenth grader, has had a similar experience. “I once really liked this girl, but I think she romanticized the thought of being in a relationship rather than liking the person she was planning on pursuing it with.” This shows that even though the signs may add up, and they may act as though they reciprocate the same feeling, they might not want the same thing you do.
