On Sept. 26, the Newport FFA Chapter traveled to the CDP area competition. At the event, students competed in vet science, poultry evaluation, floriculture, tractor driving, agronomy, and a CDE sampler. Emmaly Plank placed 2nd in floriculture and Gracyn Shutt placed 3rd. Evan Fleisher placed 3rd in tractor driving and finally, Evan Rice placed 6th in poultry evaluation.
The following week, senior Vincent Elderkin, junior Joey Turner, and freshmen Maryanna Aldrich, Case Barkley, Kaylee Bell, Emily Caldwell, Jameson Cummins, Elexis Dishman, and Elizabeth Hoover participated in the Fall Leadership Conference. While they were there, they participated in activities that explained FFA and worked as a team.
The FFA chapter helped host Farm to Fork event on Oct. 7. Farm to Fork is a dinner for all the local farmers and other FFA alumni. Shutt, E. Plank, and Lillian Plank participated in the opening ceremony as well. “All the food is donated by local Perry County farmers and families,” explains Plank, which helps to make this a community-centered event.
On Oct. 12, senior Lillee Shull, junior Jocelyn Cook, sophomore Taylor Barr, and Hoover participated in the Spot Conference. While the group primarily focused on parliamentary procedure rules, they also participated in icebreakers and other leadership activities.
