If you’ve ever played a fighting game, you know just how satisfying it can be to pull off a great-looking combo. But what if you could slow down time to the frame and craft the perfect sequence against your opponent?
Your Only Move is Hustle, commonly referred to as YOMI Hustle, is a game that uniquely mixes together the strategy and fighting game genres. At the beginning of the game, it is paused while both players select a move. Each move, which can be either an attack, defense, or movement, takes a certain number of frames to complete. Once a move is complete, the player is ready to move again, and the game pauses to allow the player to select the next move. Notice that both players don’t necessarily move at the same time after the first move. Different moves have different lengths.
When you hit the opponent with an attack, they will be stunned for some time, and this also makes them unable to attack, meaning you can build up some massive combos. Fortunately for them, however, there is a burst option, which allows you to send the other player flying away to break their combo. It has an extremely long cooldown, though.
The game can be thought of as a turn-based strategy, but its system is unlike any other. Each character has at least twenty possible moves, and each one can be countered by something else. It’s not like chess, where there is always an optimal best move, although some moves are definitely worse. The worst thing in YOMI Hustle, though, is to be predictable. While selecting your next move, you can also select a move for the opponent, as a prediction to see what would happen if they played that. It’s a useful tool, especially when things get complicated.
Playable in both single-player and online multiplayer modes, you get the ability to craft the most perfect game imaginable or test your brainpower and skill against anyone across the world. Perfect for fans of both strategy and fighting games, Your Only Move is Hustle is absolutely a game worth checking out.
