FFA earns accolades, ribbons at county fair

Multiple Newport FFA members showed their projects at the Perry County Fair during the week of Aug. 14, 2023, including Case Barkley (Dairy), Evan Fleisher (Dairy), Lillian Plank (Goats), Lillie Shull (Sheep, Steer, Rabbits), Blake Shutt (Pigs), and Gracyn Shutt (Pigs). Barkley and Fleisher also participated in tractor driving. Fleisher received first place in tractor driving.  Barkley earned Champion Ayrshire, and Shull earned Reserved Grand Champion Middleweight Steer. The chapter display board placed third overall.

Then, on Sept. 19th, the Newport FFA chapter took a small group of students to a dairy management contest. Those students included Case Barkley, Evan Fleisher, Lillian Plank, and Lillee Shull. During the contest, they had to evaluate cows, milk quality, and nutrition, and they had to monitor the business. The Newport FFA chapter placed third in this contest.
