A fisheye lens point-of-view of the new Stew-dio.
The announcement equipment room, endearingly labeled the “Stew-dio,” has been greatly upgraded for this year. Everything from the monitor to the chairs has been improved. The cameras are of a higher quality, the mics are more sensitive, and the ancient filing cabinets have been replaced with shelving cabinets.
This, as any journalism student from 2024 and back will tell you, is long overdue. The old supplies, many of which were outdated, frequently broke down and needed to be replaced. Towards the end of last school year, we lost most of our broadcasting capabilities after a switchboard, the device that allowed us to switch between visuals, stopped working.
Viewers may have still noticed problems with the announcements since we acquired the new equipment. Numerous times, reports of a lack of sound or improper labels have been noted. These issues are a result of troubleshooting. As of now, most of these inconveniences have been resolved. The soundless and blurry broadcast has been replaced with clear and productive news.
The way staff can access the morning broadcast has changed as well. Rather than connecting to the school-wide feed on each classroom’s Promethean boards, they are now run through YouTube. Each morning’s live stream is available on the NSD Studio profile, under the “Morning Announcements” category.
The Newport High School Journalism program would like to thank the Buffalo Foundation for providing this new equipment.
