Dalton Kratzer prepares to run the Buffalo flag at last years game at Susquenita.
The 2025 Newport football season will be a remarkable year, no matter what the ending record turns out to be. The team will highlight the small wins and keep working on the technique to better themselves. The team seeks to avenge the Susquenita Blackhawks after their double-overtime near-loss in the fall of 2024. “I’m really looking forward to playing Susquenita, something about that double-overtime loss and the fact that they’re in our county makes me want to be them more,” senior Jordan Weyant commented. Regardless, the Buffaloes picked up two wins last year: one against Milton Hershey on a swampy home field and another on the road at Halifax Area.
As the seniors take on leadership roles this year, a few share what they hope to accomplish this season. “… a winning record this year as a team and more so individually, I’m looking to record over 800 all-purpose yards on offense,” shared Zachary Bates. “I’m looking forward to winning as a team and coming closer as a team,” Justin Still added.
Furthermore, the team wants the season to be one to remember. “I want people to remember this season as when Newport flipped their attitude around and started winning football games. I want this to be the year where we shock our conference of their expectations,” Weyant proclaimed. “That we play our best no matter how hard it was,” Dalton Kratzer added.
The seniors have also noticed how they’ve changed from their junior year to their senior year. “I have changed between this year and last year by becoming a better leader by going to speed training every day, showing up for practice, and being in the weight room every day,” Trevin Arnold reminisced. “I feel like I’ve become more vocal as a leader and a person that will keep my teammates accountable,” Bates stated.
The team began its season on the road with a scrimmage against Williams Valley on Aug. 16. The team’s first game of the regular season will be a home opener against Juniata Valley on Aug. 21. They will then move on to an away matchup against Line Mountain on Aug. 29 and a home game against James Buchanan on Sept. 5.
Week 4 will be an away game at Camp Hill on Sept. 12, which will lead into Week 5, where Newport hosts Susquenita on Sept. 19. Senior Recognition Night will begin before the game.
On Sept. 26, Newport will be on the road again to Milton Hershey and then again on Oct. 3 to Juniata. The team will return to Katchmer Field for their Oct. 10 Homecoming game against Halifax Area.
After Homecoming, the team will close out the season with an away game at Upper Dauphin Area on Oct. 17 and a home game against Steelton-Highspire on Oct. 24.
